3-yr-old drowns in drain outside home in Gzb

GHAZIABAD: A three-year-old boy after falling into an open in Loni?s Khanna Nagar on Monday afternoon. Police said the kid was playing outside his home when he slipped into the drain. He was fished out of the muddy water after his mother raised an alarm.
The child was first rushed to a private hospital and then taken to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where he was declared dead on arrival. No police complaint has been filed so far.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Saad, used to live with his father Salim, an auto-rickshaw driver, mother Afsana, and two elder siblings ? Sameer (6) and Aaliya (5). Afsana said she had last seen Saad playing with local kids but could not find him after some time. When she raised an alarm, neighbours searched for the child in nearby areas and found him in the 4ft-deep drain.

The boy?s parents refused to get an autopsy done. Umesh Kumar Pandey, the SHO of Loni police station, said an inquiry would be initiated if a complaint was lodged in the matter.

Salim?s relative Hazara claimed the drain had not been cleaned since its construction eight months ago. ?People have complained to the Loni Nagar Palika thrice in the past, but no action has been taken. It is not the first time that such an incident has taken place here. However, unlike on Monday, children could be saved in the past,? Hazara said. Ranjeeta Dhama, the chairman of Loni Nagar Palika Parishad, said she had no information about the death of the boy. She claimed a tender had been issued and a contract given to clean all drains that are under the jurisdiction of the civic body. ?I will conduct an inquiry into the case,? Dhama added.
